Try not to make more than ten wraps of thread to secure each feather. This will prevent the tie-in point from becoming unnecessarily bulky. Note how the stem of the outer feather is more to the side of the hook shank than the top. Also make sure your thread wraps at this point don't travel farther back than the initial base wraps, forcing the feathers downward.
